Summer Solstice…

My most memorable Summer Solstice was spent on the way to Isabella…

The summer after my sister died we decided to have a Summer Solstice party in her honor — all of her friends would come up to the Pine.  We’d carry on and have a party Pam would have loved.

I was living in Omaha at the time, so the plan was for me to fly to the cities, catch a ride with Pam’s husband from the cities to Isabella…

It was all simple until Delta decided it wasn’t going to cooperate — I ended up spending plenty of time in Detroit — getting in really late to the cities, taking a cab to Mark’s mom’s — searching in the dark, in the rain, for the key to her place so I could take a short nap and drive up north…

I started thinking about this today because they’re running Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth today…

and — you guessed it — I hit the start of Grandma’s traffic diversions too…

I eventually got to Isabella, participated in the revelry and had a good time with Pam’s friends… but, I’ll never forget the hellacious trip to get there… Maybe Andy and I will host the 15th anniversary reprise of that party… Delta can’t interfere in those plans!

As for the actual summer solstice this time around, I think it’s Tuesday… maybe we’ll take Max on an all day adventure to celebrate the longest day of the year!
